MI (Sandro): Kannst du unseren Leserinnen und Lesern Halflives kurz vorstellen – wer seid ihr, wofür steht ihr?

Linda:  Hey Sandro, vielen lieben Dank für dein Interesse! Halflives ist mein Soloprojekt hier in Italien, aber sobald wir auf der Bühne stehen, wird daraus eine richtige Band, die die Musik zum Leben erweckt. Der Sound ist eine Mischung aus kraftvollem, energiegeladenem Rock und eingängigen Vocals, die im Ohr bleiben – roh, aber auch catchy. Um das Ganze etwas anschaulicher zu formulieren, würde ich sagen, es bewegt sich irgendwo im gleichen Universum wie Paramore und Avril Lavigne – eine Mischung aus Power und Emotion. Ich hoffe, das gibt dir einen guten Eindruck davon, wofür Halflives steht!

MI: Welches Etikett dürfen wir deiner Musik verpassen?

Linda: Ich weiss, das klingt wie ein Klischee – aber ganz ehrlich: Unseren Sound in eine Schublade zu stecken, ist gar nicht so einfach, weil er sich ständig weiterentwickelt. Wenn ich es aber heute beschreiben müsste, würde ich sagen: Halflives ist im Rock verwurzelt – mit treibenden, energiegeladenen Gitarrenriffs und Vokallinien, die im Gedächtnis bleiben sollen. Der Gesang war für mich schon immer das Herzstück der Musik, ganz egal, in welchem Stil ich mich gerade bewege.

Im Laufe der Jahre hatte ich das Glück, mit verschiedenen Sounds und Ideen zu experimentieren – und genau diese Freiheit bedeutet mir alles. Aber im Kern geht es stets um rohe Emotionen, Energie und Melodien, die einem nicht mehr aus dem Kopf gehen.

Solo-Level-Up

Seit den Anfängen hat sich bei Halflives einiges getan – nicht nur auf klanglicher Ebene, sondern auch in der Besetzung. Besonders der Neustart als Solo-Projekt im Jahr 2021 war ein markanter Wendepunkt, der sicher auch Einfluss auf die musikalische Schöpfungskraft hatte. Für viele Künstlerinnen und Künstler verändert sich mit solchen Umbrüchen oft der ganze Blick aufs Songwriting.

MI: Welchen Einfluss hatte der Neustart 2021 auf deinen kreativen Prozess?

Linda: Seit meiner Entscheidung im Jahr 2021, Halflives als Soloprojekt weiterzuführen, hat sich an meiner Arbeitsweise eigentlich nichts grundlegend geändert. Ich war schon immer diejenige, die die Songs geschrieben hat – und dabei nahm ich mir immer die Freiheit, das zu tun, was ich wirklich wollte. Natürlich hat sich mein Stil im Laufe der Jahre weiterentwickelt und verändert. Es gab Phasen, in denen ich mehr mit elektronischen und poppigen Klängen experimentiert habe – immer in Kombination mit dem rockigen Fundament, das mir so wichtig ist.

Heute habe ich das Gefühl, dass sich der Kreis geschlossen hat – ich bin zurück bei meinen Wurzeln, aber um all die Erfahrungen reicher und mit einer neuen Perspektive vor Augen. Ich glaube, der Sound meiner neuen CD „How Much A Heart Can Take Before It Breaks“ bringt genau das auf den Punkt und spiegelt die Seele von Halflives wider.

Manche Titel fassen den Kern einer Band besser zusammen als ganze Alben – sie bringen Klangwelt, Haltung und Emotionen in nur wenigen Minuten auf den Punkt. Auch beim Projekt der charismatischen Sängerin gibt es sicherlich Tracks, die besonders tief blicken lassen und wie ein musikalisches Aushängeschild wirken.

MI: Welcher eurer Songs bringt deiner Meinung nach eure musikalische Identität am besten auf den Punkt – und weshalb?

Linda: Wenn ich mich auf einen festlegen müsste, dann wäre das ganz klar „Immortals“ von meiner neuen EP „How Much A Heart Can Take Before It Breaks“. Das ist mein absoluter Lieblingstrack auf der Platte – für mich verkörpert er genau das, wofür Halflives stehen. Sowohl inhaltlich als auch klanglich fängt das Lied die Essenz des Projekts perfekt ein.

„Immortals“ ist ein Aufruf an alle Aussenseiter und Minderheiten – ein Song zum Aufstehen und Zusammenhalten, der ein Thema anspricht, das mir sehr am Herzen liegt. Musikalisch findest du darin die eingängigen Gesangslinien, die schon immer ein zentrales Element meiner Kompositionen waren, kombiniert mit rockiger Energie und elektronischen Elementen. Für mich vereint der Track alles, was den Sound von Halflives ausmacht.

CEO mit Herz – und ohne Plan B

Halflives stehen nicht nur für eingängige Hooks und emotionale Lyrics – hinter der Musik steckt auch eine beeindruckende kreative Vision. Frontdame Linda Battilani scheint dabei nicht nur musikalisch den Ton anzugeben: Sie Co-produziert die Stücke, wirkt bei der Regie der Musikvideos mit und gestaltet sogar das Merchandising der Band. Kaum zu glauben, wie viel kreative Power in einer einzigen Person stecken kann.

MI: Woher nimmst du all diese Energie – und was treibt dich an?

Linda: Ja, ich bin klar der Kopf hinter allem. Es ist eine Menge Arbeit, aber ganz ehrlich: Für mich gab es nie einen Plan B. Musik ist mein Weg. Ich glaube fest daran, dass das meine Berufung im Leben ist – und deshalb tue ich alles, um weiterhin das machen zu können, was ich liebe. Ich schätze mich sehr glücklich, dass ich das meinen Beruf nennen darf.

Quasi die „CEO“ von Halflives zu sein bedeutet, eine Menge Verantwortung zu übernehmen. Du brauchst Energie und Antrieb, um alles im Blick zu behalten – vor allem, wenn du eine klare Vorstellung davon hast, wie die Dinge aussehen und laufen sollen. Ich bin bei jedem Detail voll dabei, eher perfektionistisch… vielleicht sogar ein kleiner Kontrollfreak! Aber das gehört einfach dazu, wenn dir etwas wirklich am Herzen liegt.

MI: Worauf bist du besonders stolz?

Linda: Zu meinen stolzesten Momenten zählen auf jeden Fall die beiden Headliner-Touren, die wir letztes und dieses Jahr gespielt haben. Die „Inferno Tour“ war mit Halflives meine erste Runde als Hauptact – und es war weniger ein Aha-Erlebnis als vielmehr ein riesiger Energieschub. Ich erinnere mich noch genau an den Gedanken: „Wow, all diese Leute sind wegen mir, wegen uns hier.“ Dieses Gefühl hat mir enorm viel Kraft und Motivation gegeben, weiterzumachen.

Und dann haben wir das Ganze dieses Jahr mit der „Golden Era Tour” wiederholt. Ich glaube, ich war noch nie so erschöpft und gleichzeitig so überglücklich. Headliner-Touren sind extrem intensiv, aber sie geben dir auch eine Erfüllung, die man sonst nirgendwo bekommt. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, das alles nochmal zu erleben.

Mit jeder neuen Veröffentlichung wächst die Fangemeinde – und natürlich stellt sich die Frage: Wie geht die Reise weiter? Gibt es neue Musik, Tourpläne, Überraschungen?

MI: Was dürfen wir in naher Zukunft von Halflives erwarten – worauf können wir uns freuen?

Linda: Du kannst auf jeden Fall mit neuer Musik und weiteren Touren rechnen – ans Aufhören denke ich nach diesen überwältigenden Erfahrungen nämlich definitiv nicht! Nach all den Auftritten auf der Bühne verlagert sich mein Fokus nun wieder aufs Songwriting, denn der kreative Prozess hört eigentlich nie wirklich auf. Es kursieren aktuell einige Gerüchte und Pläne … vielleicht ist es an der Zeit, ein ganzes Album zu schreiben. Es wäre mein erstes in voller Länge, und genau das spukt mir im Kopf herum. Ich möchte noch nichts versprechen, aber ich habe es mir auf jeden Fall vorgenommen.

Niedrige Erwartungen, maximale Freude

Seit der Gründung der italienischen Alternative-Pop-Rock-Formation ist viel passiert: kreative Höhenflüge, persönliche Herausforderungen und eine stetige Weiterentwicklung des eigenen Sounds. Eine solche Reise hinterlässt Spuren, formt einen Menschen und hilft oft auch, sich selbst besser zu verstehen.

MI: Was hast du auf deinem Weg mit Halflives über dich selbst gelernt?

Linda: Eine der wichtigsten Lektionen, die ich gelernt habe, ist Geduld – und ganz ehrlich: Das war noch nie meine Stärke. Ich musste auch lernen, ein bisschen loszulassen, besonders wenn es darum geht, Dinge nicht persönlich zu nehmen. In diesem Beruf gibst du so viel von dir selbst in das, was du tust, und trotzdem kommt es nicht immer so an, wie du es dir vorgestellt hast. Früher hat mich das sehr getroffen. Aber mit der Zeit habe ich gelernt, meine Erwartungen besser zu steuern – nicht im Sinne von Aufgeben, sondern als Schutz für meinen inneren Frieden.

Wenn ich heute einen neuen Song oder ein Projekt veröffentliche, versuche ich, meinen Selbstwert nicht mehr an den Reaktionen oder Zahlen festzumachen. Natürlich liegt mir alles immer noch sehr am Herzen, aber ich lasse mich nicht mehr davon definieren, wie gut etwas performt. Mein neues Mantra lautet: niedrige Erwartungen, maximale Freude. So kann ich mich über Positives umso mehr freuen – und wenn es mal nicht so läuft, wirft es mich nicht aus der Bahn. Das hat meine mentale Gesundheit und meine Kreativität wirklich verändert.

Wer eine künstlerische Reise wie Linda Battilani hinter sich hat, mit all ihren Höhen, Tiefen und unerwarteten Wendungen, sammelt ganz unterschiedliche Erfahrungen. Und stellt sich vielleicht auch mal die Frage …

MI: Wenn du zehn Jahre in die Vergangenheit reisen könntest – welchen Rat würdest du deinem jüngeren Ich geben?

Linda: Gib nicht auf, Mädchen. Vertraue darauf, dass alles seinen Weg geht – du packst das!

Zwischen kreativer Multitasking-Power, ausdrucksstarken Darbietungen und einem vollen Tourplan könnte man fast meinen, Linda besitzt längst übernatürliche Kräfte. Doch angenommen, sie dürfte sich eine spezielle Begabung aussuchen – ganz frei und ohne Grenzen der Realität …

MI: Welche Superkraft würdest du wählen – und warum genau diese?

Linda: Ich denke, ich würde mich für die Fähigkeit zum Gedankenlesen entscheiden – auch wenn mir klar ist, dass das sowohl Fluch als auch Segen wäre. Aber ich mag es, vorbereitet zu sein. Und seien wir mal ehrlich: Das würde doch perfekt zu meiner kleinen Kontrollfreak-Ader passen… [lächelt verschmitzt]!

Halflives leben nicht nur von ihrer Musik, sondern auch von der starken Verbindung zu ihren Fans – Menschen, die den Weg der Band begleiten, ihre Songs fühlen und sie weit über Social Media hinaus unterstützen. Zum Abschluss möchten wir Linda daher noch einmal das Wort geben.

MI: Gibt es noch etwas, das du deinen Fans sagen oder ganz allgemein hinzufügen möchtest?

Linda: Danke, dass ihr es mir erlaubt, meine Kunst und meine Musik genau so in die Welt zu tragen, wie ich sie fühle – authentisch, ungefiltert und ohne Kompromisse. Es bedeutet mir mehr, als ich in Worte fassen kann, dass ich diesen Weg gehen darf und dabei Menschen an meiner Seite habe, die meine Vision verstehen und mittragen.

MI (Sandro): Could you briefly introduce Halflives to our readers – who are you, and what do you stand for?

Linda: Hey Sandro, thanks so much for having me! Halflives is my solo project here in Italy, but when we hit the stage, it’s always a full band bringing the music to life. The sound is kind of a mix of punchy, high-energy rock with vocals that stick with you, something raw and catchy. If I had to put it in context for people, I’d say it’s somewhere in the same world as Paramore and Avril Lavigne, with that blend of power and emotion. Hopefully, that gives a good sense of what Halflives is all about!

MI: What label can we put on your music?

Linda: I know it sounds like a cliché, but honestly, trying to pigeonhole Halflives’ sound is tricky because it’s always been evolving. That said, today I’d say Halflives is rooted in rock, with those driving, high-energy guitar riffs and vocal lines that I want people to remember. Vocals have always been really important to me, they’re the heartbeat of the music no matter what style I’m exploring.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky to experiment and play with different sounds and ideas, and that freedom means everything. But at its core, Halflives is about raw emotion, energy, and those unforgettable melodies that stick with you.

Solo-Level-Up

Since the beginning, a lot has happened with Halflives – not only on a sonic level, but also in the line-up. Especially the restart as a solo project in 2021 was a striking turning point, which certainly also had an influence on the musical creative power. For many artists, such upheavals often change their whole view of songwriting.

MI: What impact did the reboot in 2021 have on your creative process?

Linda: The 2021 shift to Halflives being a solo project didn’t change how I write music. I’ve always been the one writing the songs and I’ve always had the freedom to write whatever I wanted. But of course, over the years, my style has grown and changed. I went through phases where I explored more with electronic and pop sounds, always mixing that with the rock foundation that’s so important to me.

Today I feel like I’ve come full circle – back to my roots but with new experiences and a fresh perspective. I believe that the sound of my new record „How Much A Heart Can Take Before It Breaks“ truly represents the core identity of Halflives. To me, this is the real Halflives.

Some titles sum up the core of a band better than entire albums – they get to the heart of the sound, attitude and emotions in just a few minutes. Also in the project of the charismatic singer there are certainly tracks that let you look particularly deep and act like a musical figurehead.

MI: Which of your songs do you think best sums up your musical identity – and why?

Linda: Definitely “Immortals” from my new EP „How Much A Heart Can Take Before It Breaks“. It’s my favorite track on the record and to me it truly represents what Halflives is all about. Both in terms of message and sound, it captures the essence of the project.

The song is a rallying cry for misfits and minorities – a rise-up call that speaks to something I deeply care about. Musically, it features the memorable vocal lines that have always been a key part of my songs, along with a blend of rock energy and electronic elements. It really brings together everything that defines Halflives’ sound.

CEO with heart – and without a plan B

Halflives don’t just stand for catchy hooks and emotional lyrics – there’s also an impressive creative vision behind the music. Front lady Linda Battilani doesn’t just seem to set the tone musically: she co-produces the pieces, helps direct the music videos and even designs the band’s merchandising. It’s hard to believe how much creative power can be in a single person.

MI: Where do you get all this energy from – and what drives you?

Linda: Yes, I’m behind all of it. It’s a lot, but honestly, there’s never been a plan B for me. Music is it. I truly believe this is my calling in life, so I do whatever it takes to keep doing what I love, and I feel very lucky to be able to call it my job.

Being the CEO of Halflives means taking on a lot of responsibility. You need to have the energy and drive to oversee everything, especially when you have a clear vision of how you want things to be. I’m very hands-on with every detail, I’m definitely a perfectionist… maybe even a bit of a control freak! That’s just part of the package when you care that much.

MI: What are you particularly proud of?

Linda: Some of my proudest moments have been the two headlining tours we did last year and this year. The „Inferno Tour“ was the first headliner tour I did as Halflives, and it wasn’t exactly a wake-up call – it was more like a huge boost of energy. I remember thinking „wow, all these people are here for me, for us“. That feeling gave me so much strength and fuel to keep pushing forward.

And then this year, with the „Golden Era Tour“, we did it again. I don’t think I’ve ever been this exhausted and this happy at the same time. Headlining tours are intense but they also fill you up in ways nothing else can. I can’t wait to do it all over again.

With each new release, the fan base grows – and of course the question arises: How does the journey continue? Are there new music, tour plans, surprises?

MI: What can we expect from Halflives in the near future – what can we look forward to?

Linda: You can definitely expect more music and more touring – I have no intention of stopping! Now that I’m back from tour, I’m shifting my focus back to writing, because the creative process never really stops. There are some rumors and plans swirling around… maybe it’s time for me to write a full album. It would be my first full-length, so that’s definitely where my head’s at. No promises just yet, but that’s definitely the goal.

Low expectations, maximum happiness

A lot has happened since the founding of the Italian alternative pop-rock formation: creative flights of fancy, personal challenges and a constant development of their own sound. Such a journey leaves traces, shapes a person and often also helps to understand oneself better.

MI: What have you learned about yourself on your journey with Halflives?

Linda: One of the biggest lessons Halflives has taught me is patience, which, to be honest, has never been my strong suit. I’ve also had to learn how to let go a little, especially when it comes to taking things personally. In this line of work, you pour your soul into something, and it doesn’t always land the way you imagined. That used to hurt a lot. But over time, I’ve learned to manage my expectations, not in a defeatist way, but as a way to protect my peace of mind.

When I release a new song or project now, I try not to tie my self-worth to the outcome. I still care deeply, of course, but I don’t let the numbers define the success. My new mantra is: low expectations, maximum happiness. That way, when something really positive happens, I can fully celebrate it – and if it doesn’t, I’m not crushed. It’s been a game-changer for my mental health and my creativity.

Anyone who has had an artistic journey like Linda Battilani, with all its ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns, has very different experiences. And maybe the question arises …

MI: If you could travel ten years back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self?

Linda: Keep going girl, trust the process, you can do it.

Between creative multitasking power, expressive performances and a full tour schedule, you could almost think Linda has long had supernatural powers. But suppose she was allowed to choose a special talent – completely free and without limits of reality …

MI: Which superpower would you choose – and why exactly this one?

Linda: I think I’d choose mind reading, even though I know it would be as much a curse as a gift. But I like to be prepared and let’s be real, it plays right into my control-freak tendencies.. [smiles]!

Halflives live not only from their music, but also from the strong connection to their fans – people who accompany the band’s journey, feel their songs and support them far beyond social media. In conclusion, we would therefore like to give Linda the floor again.

MI: Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans or add in general?
